McKinsey señala que para alimentar a 9.000 millones de personas en 2050 deben aumentar los incentivos estatales y la innovación tecnológica en el campo

En el año 2050, el planeta Tierra estará habitado por más de 9.000 millones de personas. Un crecimiento demográfico que requerirá de un 70% más de alimentos de los que hoy produce la población mundial. Además, el aumento de las clases medias a nivel global se traducirá en un aumento de la demanda de carne y otros alimentos ricos en proteínas mientras que, paralelamente, el cambio climático podrá acabar con algunos importantes nichos agrícolas. Una previsión del aumento de la demanda que deberá sumarse al tradicional aumento del precio de algunos productos básicos de la dieta como el trigo y el arroz, que llevan encareciéndose a lo largo del a última década. La volatilidad de los precios de estos productos ha provocado una inestabilidad en los mercados que previsiblemente continuará.

Un difícil panorama descrito por la consultora estratégica McKinsey & Company para la que propone un enfoque basado en cuatro ejes:
